Charlie wants to avenge his father Manohar's injustice, caused due to Grover conning Manohar to steal Grover's diamonds, framing him a thief and then barring him from a fair trial. So he plans to steal those same gems worth $15 million, frame and expose Grover and his son Vicky after realizing they will be in Dubai on Christmas Eve. He puts together a ragtag team of Jag, Tammy, Rohan and Nandu.

He steals and scours for information and figures out that 9C is the room having a duct system leading to those jewels, but is booked for World Dance Championship (WDC) participants. He pitches the idea to participate; his crew refuses but Charlie persuades them. They search for dance teachers and with great effort find Mohini, a Marathi bar dancer. She doesn't know of their heist and agrees to teach them. Mohini and Charlie grow close.

The team clears the first round through blackmail of exposing the judges' private information, and gets the slot to represent India internationally. In Dubai, Team India grows beloved to viewers after they save a Korean opponent, who were originally very hostile to India. The heist is prolonged when the team learns that the gems will arrive on the New Year's.

In this time, Mohini reprimands the team for not revealing their true intentions. Charlie informs them that Manohar is dead due to Grover. It strengthens the team's resolve to avenge his death and show Grover his place, and thus on the finale day, they set the heist into motion. Through quick wit and long tries and fails, and some of Manohar's sentiment and structuring of the safe, they break it open, steal and begin to flee.

Mohini stays to perform to defend the honour of the country, when Grover accuses the team as thieves. But the rest of the team eventually joins Mohini and performs, outwitting Grover and the security and still managing to win the tournament. Grover and Vicky are put in jail.

Happy New Year was released on Oct 23, 2014 and was directed by Farah Khan .This movie is 2 hr 58 min in duration and is available in Hindi language. Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Anupam Kher are playing as the star cast in this movie. 1. The film was planned in 2005 but was shelved for some reason and Farah Khan went on to make Om Shanti Om (2007), and Tees Maar Khan (2010).
2. The movie already had earned more than Rs 400 Crores before release. Rs 200 Cr from selling television and music rights and Rs 200 Cr from its promotion.
3. In the end, we get a glimpse of SRK's youngest son AbRam.
4. This is the second time, after "Chennai Express" that Shah Rukh Khan has put his heroine's name ahead of the rest of the cast in the opening credits.
5. This is Shah Rukh's 12th movie released on the Festive Season Of Diwali. Happy New Year script was ready even before the release of Farah Khan's last blockbuster with SRK, Om Shanti Om (2007). but due to some problems, filmmakers decide to skip the film at that time.
6. Aamir Khan was approached first for the lead role.
7. Farah Khan penned the lyrics of "Nonsense Ki Night".
